Let's make a cd

I want to make a cd with people's best songs ever.
Just submit your best song. I know it is difficult. But imagine that cd! I promise to send it to each and every one of you who asks for it. There is going to be your name or blogname next to your song. Maybe a little "booklet" with your little comment for each one. Maybe your url if you will allow it.
Mine is: My Funny Valentine, by Chet Baker.
You take it from here.

I'm a new reader...if I have to pick a fav (today), its Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding.

Great idea! I might have to steal it...

this is such an impossible task for the die hard music fan chloe! i could pick a best song for any particular mood, but to just pick a general best song is too much. i mean, these days my current theme seems to be "end of the world as we know it" by REM. or maybe "real situation" by bob marley.

as a general best song, one of my all time favorite songs is "echoes" by pink floyd. but i doubt there'd be much room for any other music on your cd if you picked that one ;)

AHHH to hard. one of my best is probably on the cd i sent you. i tend to not pick poetic or meaningful songs, just songs with good beats, maybe nostalgic or good to dance to. ... hummm.. will it be Miami by will smith? deborah cox how did you get here? erasure oh l'amour??

    Ok, here is mine.
    final decision.
Everclear- Santa Monica. and i want a cd!! ( i love the one you sent me!!!)

by the way , EXCELLENT IDEA!

Oh god. How do I even choose. Should I just go off the top of my head? In the running at the moment are Jeff Buckley (new year's prayer), Tom Waits (a few from closing time and/or rain dogs), Radiohead (ummmmmmmm...) & Bjork (i can't stop listening to Joga right now)

    see?

    Easy. Donovan -- "Colours"

I'd love a copy when it all comes together, Chloe! And I'm happy to make a cd in return.

Hurry and write it down because it will change just after I post this

    Hi Chloe!

As hard as selecting a fave song is, I am putting forth "Made from Dirt" by Chris Whitley, from the album War Crime Blues. The late Mr. Whitley could really get to the heart of things in a frank, pugilistic but somehow always transcendent way.

It Doesn't Matter - Depeche Mode (from Some Great Reward) - for very personal reasons

    Chloe,
My all time favorite song is...
Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra.

    Love this idea!

    Hugs,
    Connie

I demand that one of my songs appears on it. Actually, I demand that all of my songs appear on it. But just in case you're not in the mood for giving into demands, I'd like to put forward "Memories" by Leonard Cohen, a much underrated work of genius (with the input of the murderous Phil Spector).

One of my fave of faves: "The Way You Look Tonight", Frank Sinatra. Or the Bryan Ferry version for the same song (as far as there is one Sinatra's previous one).

One day I downloaded 200 songs from imesh... They were the songs of my life. I love music. 200 songs and it's not enough. I'm downloading more... So it's very hard to pick one song... But if I have to choose: After the Love has Gone - Earth Wind & Fire

    I wish you the best

    Oh my comment dissappeared! :/
I love this idea, I think it's brilliant. But I've been thinking and torturing myself and it feels SO unfair to find a favourite song. Oh, I want to cry. I'm going to say Blur's To the end but this is killing me!! :P

This is impossible! But I do want a cd.. Best song...

Well, one that always gives me goosebumps, at least, is U2's Still haven't found what I'm looking for - the version with a Harlem gospel choir (the voice of that woman makes my hair stand on end just from thinking about it..)

I can come up with about 200 more suggestions, but that just might be a bit hard to fit into one cd...?

Just one song? My favourite song? I can tell you my favourite song from say, the Dave Matthews Band, but is that more my favoutitest song than my favourite Neil Diamond song? Or Blues Traveler song? Or Blue Rodeo song? or Cowboy Junkies song? or my favourite Lenord Cohen song? How can you do this to me!

OK, 'Play Me', Neil Diamond. And yes, please, to the CD.
    Greg Mills said...
Dang! I want to add another song! John Cale's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallejah."

Or maybe just the Donovan. From what I read here, it seems like we're going to see a lot of Leonard Cohen on the disc. Not that that's a bad thing!

What a great idea, Chloe. Mine would have to be "I've Had the Time Of My Life", from the Dirty Dancing sountrack. Or "My Sharona" from The Knack. Your choice ... the first one is "nicer".
    Hope you are well.
    Take care, Hugs, Meow
