Love sucks

No, wait. It actually stinks. Well, not love. Valentine's day, that's what I mean. I am so happy the day is over. I had forgotten until my son came back from school and announced: "Hey, it's Valentine's day. What are we going to do? Can I buy a new toy?"
And then when we went to the supermarket and M wanted to buy some unhealthy crisps, I mockingly yelled "VALENTINE!" and he blushed and left the bag where it was. So that was Valentine's day 2007.
But I don't want the day to go unsung. The following Eels lyrics are my tribute to this celebration of luv:

Life goes on
Nothing is new
Judge made it clear
I can't be near you

Eels "Restraining Order Blues"

Over the last few years, there's been a huge backlash against Valentines Day.
I wonder if 'Hallmark' and the other card manufacturers are worried?
    Chloe said...
Hallmark shouldn't be worried. I use their site 364 days a year.

I'm with you. You can either take it or leave it. I hope people just send me chocolate and call it a day. (-_-)

Heh, that's pretty funny, Chloe. This morning, I was toying with the idea of calling today's post "Heart Full of Black." It was a toss-up. Atleast I kept the black. :)

I wish Happy Valentine's to those who truely deserve it, though.

there's absolutely nobody in this world who doesn't deserve love or to celebrate love. this silly day is another thing altogether. don't attach any symbolism to it. love does not keep a calendar you know.
    xx

valentine's day is bull shit, i agree with u. i don't like it either. u can't jus set aside a day for 'declaring' and 'professing' your love and then spend the rest of the year spreading all the hatred and anger, like most people do...

plus - its become one hell of a marketing gimmick. the only ones who truly have lots of fun are all the crooked companies who sell cards, gifts and other such 'things' that are ugly 'representations' and 'symbols' of our love...

so now u know - there r others with black, why blacker hearts :)

Being told to be romantic and loving is certain to destroy the little sweetness in my soul. That's what I found yesterday, anyway.

I don't mean those who deserve love, Chloe, like you said, everyone deserves love. I mean those who deserve the Valentine's Wish.

I don't see Valentine's Day as a day created specifically to "profess love" so much as a day created to celebrate it.

We've got so many bogus holidays, especially in this country, but I think one that stands out and says, "Love and Romance are important and should be cherished!" is a valid one.

Valentine's Day has been around since the Middle Ages, long before Hallmark or any other commercial cards were even invented, so I don't understand why people say it was created by manufacturer's.

Everyone's going to make some money out of holidays, that's just natural. Nobody complains about the marketing gimmick of Mother's Day or Father's Day, which are a lot more manufactured than Valentine's Day. Heck, even someone is getting rich off those pink ribbons during "Breast Cancer Month."

I still hate it and I'm in a relationship. It's so fake! Who needs ONE day to tell someone how much they mean?

Agree too- Unnecessary to have a day just to tell someone you love them...
It is fun for the kids though..

I Valentine's resolution is to never, ever, ever spend money on stupid heart-shaped things! I can do it on the 13th or 15th of february but not because it's valentine's day. And that's it!
But thanks for the loverboy card, very funny :)

This world is so in need of love sweet love. I do not emphasize the materialism of this day just the sweetness of love shared from heart to heart. It seems people are much too busy in life these days to remember what is really important.
We are here to love..............I love love love Valentine's Day.
But I share love and sweetness everyday not just that day.
I give Valentine's to everyone and tell them if they are lucky enough to have a great love treasure it.
I have lost so many I love these past few years and treasures those I have left to love here on Earth.
    Love is all you need.
    Love Jeanne

I use to think people in love were attracted to the person they're in love with, but after reading your post, I agree with the title, "Love Sucks," which means there really isn't attraction, just this suction drawing two people together. ;P

    I am the Valentine's Scrooge!

    BAH! Cinnamon hearts!

That's all I have to say about Valentine's Day.

Did you know Valentine's Day initials also stand for venereal disease?

I'm with you on Valentine's Day. I sent out a card to my granddaughter, and that was it.
I did like making my own valentines with paper doilies and construction paper when I was a girl.
Holidays have become a huge racket in the U.S.
